Tonight is GSDC's 3rd annual Graduation ceremony!  The excitement in the building is electric!  The child are all very excited to attend and preform for their families.  The staff are all a buzz with preparation, practices and gathering of supplies!  Weeks of planning and practices go into graduation.
Graduation also signals teh beginning of summer fun at GSDC.  Starting on June 1st the classrooms will all participate in water and field trip days weekly.  Picnics will pop up, new children join the classrooms, and more time is spent outside exploring nature and the neighborhood.

March!

January, how is it possible that my last post was in January?  It's the middle of March and so much is going!
At the end of February Ms. Beth our Two's teacher fell and broke her leg.  She has been off since and will be off for at least 6 more weeks.  She is greatly missed, Beth has never been gone more than a week at a time in the last 10 years!  We hope she has a speedy recovery!
Gramma Sue's has four new staff members.  Ms. Racheal is working as a substitute in the Two's room.  Ms. Nichole joined her as teacher's assistant.  Ms. Sasha has joined our staff as the Three's teacher, replacing Ms. Tammy who became our Qualified Breaker.  Last but not least is Ms. Alison who is our afternoon assistant in the Toddlers and Two's.  Other staffing changes include Ms. Wanda working full days in our Infant classroom with Ms. Jessica.
Whew, I told you there was lots going on.
Later this month the Three's classroom will be getting painted, finally!  The playground will have new trees and mulch, and we will find out if our grant request will be funded!
The children have been busy playing outside, which makes everyone very happy!  They have also participated in movie days, pajama days, St. Patrick's day parties and we had Picture day.
Week of the Young Child will be coming up in April.  Shortly after that we will celebrate Staff Appreciation and Graduation!
Wishing you all a happy Spring!
Gwen

January!

How has it become January already?  2010, remember when that felt so very far off?  Remember what we predicted 2010 would look like.  I think we all miscalculated just a little!
The future at Gramma Sue's does look very bright though.  The children are growing and maturing both physically and developmentally!  It is a wonder in itself to watch these children daily.  The teachers have such an awesome job!  They get the privilege to help you mold your children into wonderfully well adjusted, intelligent Kindergarteners.
2010 starts off with our Creation theme.  The classrooms are discussing all the "things" they can create and how they can create them.  We have seen some very interesting projects!  Our bible story is Creation/Genesis 1/Adam and Eve.  Our colors are black and white, numbers are 1-13, and the shape is the square.
At Gramma Sue's 2010 has all ready brought along some changes.  Ms. Maggie and Ms. Heidi did not come into the new year with us.  They are both starting new careers elsewhere, we wish them the best of luck.  Ms. Lindsey has joined us while we search for a replacement for Ms, Heidi.  Ms. Lindsey just graduated from WIU with an agricultural degree.  Ms. Michelle and Ms. Jorie have been working a few more days in recently also.  We have added a few new children to our classrooms, too, which makes a great start to a new year.
We hope 2010 is a wonderful year for all our families and our extended daycare families too!

Thankfulness
Gone are the warm summer days.  Halloween has now passed.  Now is a time for thankfulness and celebration of a great year passed.  We are quickly closing in on the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010.  But I am getting ahead of myself!
Last week ended with excitement and a little bit of disappointment for the older children.  On Halloween the three and four/Five's were scheduled to walk to PVL for a Halloween parade.  Everyone was very, very excited...then we woke to rain!  We all kept hoping the rain would stop so the children could take the walk to PVL, but no such luck.  The children did enjoy lots of fun during our first center-wide party!  The Two's room was very full and very busy but fun was had by all who attended!

This month we will celebrate thankfullness and blessings as our theme.  Our color for the month is brown, our letters are g,h,i, our numbers are 1-8, the shape of the month is the diamond and last but not least our bible story is the Ten Commandments.

On November 19th we will have our annual Feast at 11:15.  The staff will also be holding a Bake Sale.  We hope to raise a little money for some new materials.  All parents, family members and family friends are invited to attend.  Sign up sheets will be posted in classrooms soon!

In case you do not hear from me until after Thankgiving...Gramma Sue's wishes everyone a safe, happy Holiday.

Halloween Week

Halloween week here at GSDC is always a busy week!  We have field trips to get pumpkins,  pumpkin carving, bat projects, treat making and more!  All of our classrooms are gearing up for our Halloween parties on Friday.  In the morning on Friday the older classrooms will be visiting Pleasant View Luther Home for a Halloween parade.  After the children have lunch and a nap we will have our classroom parties.  This year we are doing things a little differently.  After the children share all the wonderful treats the parents bring, all the classrooms will combine to play games!   Each classroom has picked a game that all the children will be able to participate in.  The Infant classroom will host Find the Pumpkin, the Toddler classroom will host a Pumpkin Play-dough center, Two's will host Pumpkin Buckets, Three's will host Pin the Heart on the Skeleton and the 4/5 classroom will host a Pumpkin Walk.  All children and parents who attend are invited to play each of the games!  This should be lots of fun!  Look for pictures next week!

GSDC wishes each and everyone of you a safe and happy Halloween!

Fall has arrived!

At Gramma Sue's fall has blown in!  Our classrooms are transforming from summer paradises to cozy fall sanctuaries.  The children are still able to spend lots of time outside exploring nature, thanks mainly to mother nature and a wonderfully warm fall.  The teachers are increasing the amount of focus on curriculum also.  We take a "break" and review during the summer.  Now that Fall is here we are starting over with the letters a,b,c and numbers 1,2,3.  Our theme for September is Sports, color is red, shape is circle.  The bible story for the month is The Golden Rule.

JOIN US TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 29TH AT WENDY'S!  Gramma Sue's will receive 15% of all purchases made between 5 p.m.and 8 p.m.!  Help Gramma Sue's raise money for mulch and paint for our three's classroom!

Water, Parks and Fun!
Water days are in full swing here at Gramma Sues!  The children really enjoy running through the sprinkler, playing in the water tables and for those whose attendance allows, playing in the wading pools!
Most classes have been spending one day a week at the park also!  Some classes even have a picnic lunch while they are at the park.  Does that sound like summer or what?
This week, Ms. Mary in the 4/5s classroom is hosting a banana split day!  Ms. Tammy in the 3s is having a camp-out complete with fun snacks!
Check in soon for more fun news and stories from Ms. Gwen in the office of GSDC.
